📚 The Return of Magic

"It’s not even a new idea. It’s a very old one"

Sorry about the email on Wednesday - I meant to schedule that for Friday, today. Because of that, I didn’t have this intro:

Hey everyone - I hope all has been well. I am going to try a new format here where instead of a single weekly email at the end of the week, I’ll send 2 - 3 emails a week with a more detailed summary of a single article.

This does two things - 1) for me, it reduces the number of things I have to read to find good articles (finding 2 - 3 worthwhile articles versus 6+) and 2) for you, hopefully the emails are more meaningful than a single quote being pulled from multiple articles.

So far, based on the article clicks from Wednesday email, #2 seems to be true. As always, I love to hear your feedback!

Best,

EJ

Article Summary

"The Return of Magic" by Packy McCormick explores the resurgence of spiritual and mystical beliefs in a technologically advanced world. McCormick describes his personal journey towards believing in a Universal Consciousness, sparked by listening to "The Telepathy Tapes" podcast.

The article argues that society is moving beyond the purely rational materialist paradigm towards a more holistic worldview that incorporates both technology and spirituality. McCormick uses the concept of the Midwit Curve to illustrate this shift, suggesting that we are progressing from naive belief through skepticism to a more nuanced understanding.

McCormick discusses several experiences that contributed to his changing perspective, including synchronicities and unexplained phenomena. He particularly focuses on "The Telepathy Tapes," a podcast about non-verbal autistic children with apparent telepathic abilities.

The author draws parallels between these modern experiences and ancient spiritual traditions, referencing Aldous Huxley's concept of the Perennial Philosophy. This philosophy suggests that all major religious and spiritual traditions point to the same universal truth.

While acknowledging the rapid technological advancements of 2024, McCormick proposes that the future may not unfold as predictably as we imagine. He suggests that a deeper understanding of consciousness could lead to unexpected developments and a more "magical" world.

The article concludes by encouraging readers to remain open-minded and curious about these ideas, presenting them as a starting point for further exploration rather than definitive conclusions.

If you found today’s issue interesting, more than anything, I would appreciate you forwarding it to someone that might also enjoy it. It is a big deal to me whenever someone reads my work, so I appreciate your support.
